This second commandment is some sort of extension of the first one. If you missed the first commandment, you can catch it here.

Here is command number two: “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them.”

Whew. Basically, God is saying we are not allowed to make any physical entity of anything. Heaven or earth. We are not to worship such structures. I like how God covers it up. He specifically mentions not to worship these things because He was well aware that not everybody would build an idol, but could be led to worship one.

Just like the first commandment, there is nothing in USA law that backs this. We simply don’t care what you do with your resources as long as it doesn’t violate any laws that are established.

Two commandments in a row where we, as Christians, are alone. It’s up to us to follow the law. For some reason, we tend to uphold the law of the land more than the law of the Lord.
