The Optimistic Report: Helping Single Mothers

The Optimistic Report is a featured post sharing positive, good, and optimistic news. Also, inspirational quotes and some humor too. Ready? Go!

So, first thing to talk about is Tommy Norman. Tommy is a police officer who does what he calls “C.O.P.” This stands for Community Oriented Policing. So, what he does is hang out with the members of the community, specifically kids.

He talks about how, by spending time with the citizens, he’s building a relationship and building trust. Check out his Instagram post (within the main article) on his reasoning. Really awesome stuff.

Next, let’s talk about a business that employs single mothers. So, Xinca is a company that uses tire scraps to make shoes. They hire single mothers because their goal is to give back their dignity and give them a chance to take care of their families. Honestly, why wouldn’t you want to support a business that’s trying to stop pollution and help people less fortunate?

So, inequality is still a topic. While some say it’s inevitable that we will always have inequality, I strongly agree with the idea that inequality is a choice and a policy instead of something that will simply just happen. Let me know what you think.

The Optimistic Report: Firefighters Save Christmas

It’s a little too early for Christmas unless you work in retail. But, for a man who was trying to get his house ready for the holiday season by putting his lights on the house, it could’ve been better.

Glenn fell off of the ladder he was using to put up Christmas lights. He ended up breaking his leg. So, as emergency services cleared out, some of the firefighters stayed behind and finished decorating the house.

You hear this story every year. Some secret santa goes to layaway and pays for orders. This time, we have a man right from my New Jersey pay for 60 orders which totaled to about $10,000. This was at a Toys R Us store in Cherry Hill (I am not far from there).

He didn’t stop there. He also spent another $2,000 for Toys for Tots.

Finally, we have a man who decided to take matters into his own hands. Or, wheels. Bruce decided he needed to show the local police that a nearby intersection was very dangerous so he did the only thing he knew: Crash his car.

Wait, what?

Yeah, he just…he crashed into somebody on purpose, then told the other driver off!

Look, I’m all about making a point and giving live demonstrations to back that point up, but they might have gone too far, Bruce. Let’s see where Bruce was coming from. Accidents had been happening at that intersection, and it seems it was specifically because people were running stop signs. Bruce also believes nothing will change until someone dies.

Actually some strong points. He just…ah…took it too far, bro. Too far. Nobody was injured. So, that’s cool.

Daily Good Stuff 240: Nature

Another themed post for DGS! This time, we’ll be looking at nature. It’s such a nice day today I figured we have class outside today. C’mon kids!

Even with all our technology and the inventions that make modern life so much easier than it once was, it takes just one big natural disaster to wipe all that away and remind us that, here on Earth, we’re still at the mercy of nature. Neil deGrasse Tyson

“Flowers are appearing on the earth. The season for singing has come.
The cooing of doves is heard in our land.” Song of Solomon 2:12

Daily Good Stuff 239

Well what about that? Daily Good Stuff returns. We’re picking up where we last left off here at DALANEL.

This feature helped bring DALANEL to a high following status and really put me on the map. It’s been over a year since I last posted on a consistent basis, but it continues to get the majority of blog views on a daily basis.

So, for this week, we’ll look at DGS, the first daily post type of DALANEL. Most of the featured posts that followed were various forms of this post. When I started my “funny” blog, I took these elements there as well.

Thing was, this blog used to be known for humor as well as what you see now. I essentially split those up so that humor had its own spot while positive had DALANEL.

Alright, I bet you’re tired of the talk. Before we start, let me tell you what DGS posts looked like in its prime. We had a quote, scripture, video, image (usually funny), joke, funny and/or weird news, positive news, and a holiday. I’ll probably post all but the holiday. Are you ready for a blast from my past?

Scripture:

Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always. Psalm 105:4

That’s happened to me before!

How about a video? I think a video is good.

Good Stuff 238

Ah yes, as I said, we’re bringing back what is far and wide the most successful featured post in DALANEL history: Daily Good Stuff. I do hope you enjoy. And, if you don’t know, I usually post a scripture, quote, joke, video, image, fact, weird/funny news, good/positive news, and holiday.

So, let’s get this classic post going.

We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars. Oscar Wilde

“Do not judge, or you too will be judged.” Matthew 7:1

Take a look a this:

I made that myself because I’m awesome like that. You can choose whether it’s true or not.

It’s video time!

Okay but that Justin Bieber one was sad. Want a joke? Here’s something:

A photographer from a well know national magazine was assigned to cover the fires at Yellowstone National Park. The magazine wanted to show some of the heroic work of the fire fighters as they battled the blaze.

When the photographer arrived, he realized that the smoke was so thick that it would seriously impede or make it impossible for him to photograph anything from ground level. He requested permission to rent a plane and take photos from the air. His request was approved and arrangements were made. He was told to report to a nearby airport where a plane would be waiting for him.

He arrived at the airport and saw a plane warming up near the gate. He jumped in with his bag and shouted, “Let’s go!” The pilot swung the little plane into the wind, and within minutes they were in the air.

The photographer said, “Fly over the park and make two or three low passes so I can take some pictures.”

“Why?” asked the pilot. “Because I am a photographer,” he responded, “and photographers take photographs.”

The pilot was silent for a moment; finally he stammered, “You mean you’re not the flight instructor?”

You probably heard of “Dumb Starbucks” right? It’s a coffee shop basically spoofing Starbucks.

Alright, we’ll wrap it up here. Sometimes I wonder if I should bring this series back. Maybe.

Weekly Funnies 28: The Return

Alright, I gotta make up my mind. This is the second relaunch of this feature. It’s served me well though giving me tops daily views. So, I gotta bring it back. I’ll post them on Friday. The usual jokes, videos, and images are all up for grabs. Plus, I’ll add whatever else funny I see like news or quotes.

There’s a story behind it though. See, my girl Nia was actually working on a series related to this. What was cool about it was that she started working on it; I didn’t have to ask her. Unfortunately, she eventually called it off. Right before she did, I decided that funny stuff should indeed make a return to the blog. Either her feature would take it or I would bring this back.

Honestly, I hope she can eventually launch her own series. If not, she can at least post some funnies. But yeah, she wasn’t able to handle a weekly posting (I would’ve helped her but I preferred she do most of the posting). Anyway, I’m gonna try to get her to post here. Daniel already offered to help me out with the Weekly Funnies too.

Are ya ready? Let’s go!
